Path to Sanctuary

I seek the solace of untamed wildness
A Journey along the Dreamscape
An escape from the weariness
That leaden my limbs

I have been a fool for love
Had I known what love was
Confusing it for Lust and Passion
Left me Scarred and Burned

From allowing deepening feelings
For one who could not return them
The rationalization did not alter them
But reined in further degradation

Being used and abused
Was branded in my soul
Early in childhood
No sense of worth
Or self esteem given

All I heard was insincerity
Excuses and justifications
Self complacency to not rise
Above our human weaknesses

Instincts became my friend
Though feeling like a Creature
I found pride in being more true
To myself though wounded I was

I snapped at the hand that proffered
Kindness and attempt at feeding me
I have chewed up, spit out
And scorned at even tasting
A well deserved victory
Over one who did not realize that a Victim
Can become a worse predator.

I have felt the lack of fear
That normally would petrify another
As adrenaline spiked my blood
Into a moment of extreme lucidity
Where my mind screamed
I will not go down in fear
I will go for the throat
Your rights end where mine begin

Is there any place left
For a comforting shoulder
For joy to be felt
Is it only about Power
And the survival of the strongest?
